Internet connection getting "dropped" while gaming.
Hi guys, I've got a weird problem, maybe someone here can help me out. Firstly, I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Got my PPPoE wireless internet connection running easily enough and got no problems connecting and browsing the web. But: I seems like the connection just "stops" when trying to play a game like Aion or Guild Wars, and I can't figure out what the problem is. Its as if the connection can't send/receive packets when the game window is active (e.g. has focus). I tried running the games in windowed mode, which illustrated the prob perfectly. When activating the game window, connection stops (e.g. when running ping, it starts timing out), and when I click on the desktop (or any other window on my 2nd screen) it just resumes like normal. So in short: While a game window is active (Guild Wars, Aion, WoW) My internet connection just stops responding, UNTILL I make it lose focus. While anything else has focus it works like a charm... Does this sound familiar to anybody? Where do I start looking for a solution? I'm desperate: Can't get my daily MMO fix ;-) PS. I've been running Win XP before installing windows 7, and never seen this type of problem. Brief PC Specs AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (Single core) DFI Nforce 4 SLI-DR Motherboard 2gb Ram (Dunno if the rest is relevant) - will post if needed. The issue can be caused by many factors including router, network cable or network adapter driver. Update the network adapter driver to the latest version to check the result. Also check if the issue occurs when playing online videos. Are you wired into the router ? I have had a problem where the connection drops, yet the router is fine. I take the wireless dongle out put it back in and connection comes up. Stupid unreliable wireless. So how are you connected to the router ? If you are wired into the router, try and different port on the router if it has one. Also try turning the power off to the router and back on. Best to start with the simple checks first.www.mypchealth.co.uk
